Elise Powell Built She’s Vested Into One of Los Angeles’ Fastest-Growing Women’s Wellness Communities

On September 20, 2025, Elise Powell laced up, strapped on a weighted vest, and led her first walk with about 20 women through View Park in Los Angeles. She was not trying to start a movement. She was trying to breathe. What began as a personal outlet for a registered nurse, mother, and Inglewood native navigating the weight of everyday life has since grown into something far greater than a fitness group. She’s Vested is now one of the most talked-about wellness communities in Los Angeles, drawing 100 to 200 women every other Saturday for something that feels less like a workout and more like a wellness experience.

The concept is straightforward: women strap on weighted vests and walk together at Rueben Ingold Park in Windsor Hills/View Park. They choose between a route with a hill or one on flat ground. They bring their children. They bring their dogs. They bring whatever they are carrying that week, and somewhere between the first step and the last, they put some of it down. “We all carry weight in different forms. Through movement, we are learning how to carry it differently, release it, and become stronger because of it.”

The weighted vest is not just a piece of equipment. Powell is intentional about every element of She’s Vested, starting with the name. The vest is a symbol chosen specifically because she wanted the walks to represent something beyond calories burned or miles logged. “The vest adds a challenge, but in many ways it mirrors what so many women carry every day. Mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. We all carry weight in different forms, and through movement, we are learning how to carry it differently, release it, and become stronger because of it.”

For Powell, the vest represents discipline, perseverance, healing, and the act of investing in yourself even when life feels heavy. That framing resonates because women are not just coming to get their steps in. They are coming to be seen.

Powell’s background as a registered nurse gives her a particular lens on what she is witnessing every Saturday morning. She has spent years understanding the connection between physical and mental health in clinical settings, and now she is watching it play out in real time on a walking trail in Windsor Hills/View Park. “Women come to release stress, anxiety, overwhelm, and even loneliness, and they leave feeling lighter emotionally, not just physically. Sometimes all it takes is fresh air, movement, community, and a safe space where women feel seen and supported.”

The feedback after walks reinforces what she is building. Women have described feeling more confident, less stressed, and more motivated. Some have found friendships. Others have found something closer to stability. One walk at a time, She’s Vested is becoming what community was always meant to do.

Inclusivity was not an afterthought. Powell designed She’s Vested from the beginning so that no woman would feel intimidated, excluded, or left behind. The two route options, one with a hill and one flat, make sure the walk meets women where they are. Whether someone is just starting their wellness journey or already deeply active, there is still a place for them in the group. “Wellness looks different for everyone. To me, the beauty of She’s Vested is that no woman has to sit this one out or feel left behind. Everyone can move at their own pace and still feel connected to the community.”

Children and dogs are welcome. All ages are welcome. All experience levels are welcome. The walk is not framed as a workout. It is framed as a standing invitation.

She’s Vested meets every other Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at Rueben Ingold Park in Windsor Hills/View Park, Los Angeles. Weighted vests are encouraged. Participation is free. The routes remain simple: hill or flat, but the outcome has become increasingly consistent. Women arrive carrying weight in more ways than one, and leave having set some of it down.
