The Emmy-winning spiritual teacher and bestselling author takes on mother-daughter wounds and the communication gap between Black men and women in primetime specials airing October 9 and 16.

Iyanla Vanzant is back in front of a live audience. OWN will air two new OWN Spotlight specials from the spiritual teacher and life coach on Friday, October 9 and Friday, October 16 at 9 p.m. ET/PT, just in time for Emotional Wellness Month.
Vanzant has spent more than three decades building one of the most trusted names in healing. She has written 17 books, translated into 23 languages with more than 10 million copies sold, and she founded Inner Visions Institute for Spiritual Development, where she trains spiritual life coaches, leaders and ministers. From 2012 to 2021, she hosted and executive produced Iyanla: Fix My Life, which became the No. 1 reality show on OWN.

This year she came home to the network with Iyanla: The Inside Fix, a series revisiting 12 of the most unforgettable Fix My Life stories, which OWN reports premiered at No. 1 among African American women. The new specials mark the first time in years that Vanzant steps into a shared healing space with guests and a live studio audience.
“The wounds between mothers and daughters, and the disconnect between men and women, are rarely about what happened in a single moment,” Vanzant said. “They are often the result of generations of unmet needs, unspoken truths, and unheard hearts. Healing begins when we are willing to listen beyond our pain, speak beyond our fear, and see one another beyond our stories.”
Mothers & Daughters: Torn Apart
The first special airs Friday, October 9. Vanzant welcomes a live studio audience of women to witness healing in real time as she works with three generations of mothers and daughters who are ready to confront painful truths and break destructive cycles.
What Black Men Say vs. What Black Women Hear
On Friday, October 16, Vanzant convenes a live audience for an honest and emotionally charged conversation about the communication gap between Black men and Black women, one of the most persistent challenges in modern relationships.
Save the Dates
Both specials air at 9 p.m. ET/PT on OWN and stream the following day on discovery+ and HBO Max.
