Cardi B’s Grow-Good Beauty Bets on Local Beauty Supply Stores Over Big-Box Retail

The Grow-Good Beauty founder is launching her haircare line in independently owned beauty supply stores first, betting on the neighborhood shops where her customers already buy what their hair needs.

Cardi B could have taken Grow-Good Beauty anywhere. After a debut that sold out in minutes and a customer base that keeps coming back for more, the expected next move for a celebrity beauty brand would be a splashy rollout at Sephora or Ulta Beauty. Instead, the Grammy-winning artist sent her haircare line to the place that means the most to the women who buy it, the local beauty supply store.

Grow-Good Beauty arrived in two beauty supply stores in New York on October 20, a homecoming for the South Bronx native, then expanded on October 23 to four independently owned stores in Atlanta, Chicago, Houston and Los Angeles. The six-product line, developed in partnership with Revolve, includes the Wash Cycle and Wash Cycle+ shampoos, the Soft Serve and Soft Serve+ conditioners, the Everything Serum and the Get Rich Hydrating Hair Mask, with every item priced at $19.99 or less.

Cardi B and the Beauty Supply Store We Love

For Black and brown women, the beauty supply store has always been a neighborhood institution. It is where so many of us picked out our first jar of edge control alongside the women who raised us, where we learned which bonnet would actually stay on overnight, and where a teenager with a few dollars could still walk out with exactly what her hair needed.

It is also the store we run to when the need is right now. Most of the time we need the product today, because wash day does not wait for a shipping window and a big meeting does not care that the conditioner ran out last night. The beauty supply down the street is the first and most convenient place to find haircare made for our hair, which is exactly why Grow-Good belongs on its shelves.

Cardi B knows those aisles personally. Speaking at the 2026 Essence Festival of Culture in New Orleans, she remembered shopping at the beauty supply store with only $40 to spend and said that memory shaped how she priced Grow-Good, because she put herself back in her old shoes.

A Brilliant Bet on Knowing Her Customer

The decision is as strategic as it is heartfelt. Grow-Good chose beauty supply stores over Sephora and Ulta Beauty because that is where Cardi B believes her core supporters shop, and the numbers suggest she knows them well. The line has sold out repeatedly since its April 15 debut, and 40% of its customers have come back to buy again.

Revolve chief brand officer Raissa Gerona has described the beauty supply rollout as a way to test Grow-Good in physical retail, in a setting built on Cardi B’s authenticity and her relatable hair journey. Starting where the customer already trusts the shelf lets the brand learn how its products move in person before any conversation about bigger chains. Cardi B has also made clear that her ambitions reach well past these first six stores, since her goal is for Grow-Good to be everywhere.

Community Economics in Every Aisle

Placing a sold-out celebrity line inside independently owned stores also sends new customers through the doors of small businesses. Every shopper who comes in for the Get Rich mask might also leave with braiding hair, a fresh bonnet or a bottle of oil from the owner’s own shelves. For those store owners, a name brand with a built-in following is the kind of traffic that big-box retailers usually keep for themselves, and Cardi B chose to share it with the neighborhood.

The move also keeps Grow-Good close to the roots that inspired it. Long before the brand existed, Cardi B was sharing homemade hair masks from her own kitchen, drawing on remedies from her Dominican family. Grow-Good launched in March with a beauty supply tour bus in the Bronx, and in September a campaign featuring her daughter Kulture brought that kitchen-table tradition full circle, with Cardi B describing the brand as a family legacy in the making.

“This is a company that one day she’ll own.”

Growing Good, Close to Home

By meeting her customers at the corner beauty supply, Cardi B is building Grow-Good the way trust has always been built in our communities, one recommendation and one neighborhood at a time. The big-box shelves may come later. For now, the women who turned Grow-Good into a sellout can find it in the places they already know, at a price that honors the budget they were working with long before Cardi B became a household name.
